Kullu – Manali
Kullu and Manali are two separate destinations of Kullu district but because of their proximity and relation there are often reffered to as Kullu – Manali.
Kullu is the capital of Kullu district on the banks of Beas River and it is an access point to Himachal Pradesh for many visitors as it has Bhuntar Airport just few kilomeres away. Kullu Valley is connected to the ancient times through the stories of Mahabharata and Ramayana that reffer to it, it is also an important connection to Leh and Ladakh. It is especially a significant pilgrimage place with its Kullu Dussehra festival and numerous temples such as Raghunath Temple, Vaishno Devi Temple or Bijli Mahadev Temple.
Manali, on the other hand, is well known winter sports destination, the orchyard of apples, plums and pears but also some old and important temples.It is not surprising the name Manali is related to Lord Manu. Sports enthusiasts enjoy visiting Roahatang Pass of almost 4,000 meters of altitude, Solang Valley with its wide offer and relax in Vashisth hot water springs. Devotees have to visit Vashisth Temple, ancient Hadimba Devi Temple or Manu Temple, the only one of its kind in India.
